Dallas Business Network Debuts Sept. 30

Three of the greatest entrepreneurs in American history will receive honors at the kickoff event for the Baylor Business Network of Dallas, set for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Inter-Continental Hotel, 15201 Dallas Parkway.
The list of greatest entrepreneurs is the result of research conducted by Dr. Blaine McCormick, assistant professor of management at Baylor, and Burton Folsom Jr. of the Center for the American Idea, who polled 58 business historians and experts. Others on the list are Bill Gates (2), John D. Rockefeller (3), Andrew Carnegie (4), Thomas Edison (5), Sam Walton (6), J.P. Morgan (7), Alfred Sloan (8), Walt Disney (9) and Ray Kroc (10).
Mary Kay Ash, the Greatest Woman Entrepreneur according to the list, will be represented by her grandson, Ryan Rogers at the Sept. 30 event. Edsel Ford will accept Henry Ford's award for No. 1 Entrepreneur, and John Johnson, founder of Ebony magazine, will receive the award for Greatest Minority Entrepreneur.
From creating specialized cosmetics to popularizing the automobile, these entrepreneurs have changed the American lifestyle, Dr. McCormick said. "Each of these people has given us something good and positive that we use daily," he said. "It takes more than just a household name to make the list. These people had a real vision, and their contributions touch our lives."
Dr. McCormick will present the awards and Dr. Terry Maness, dean of the Hankamer School of Business, will preside at the event. 
The Baylor Business Network is designed to facilitate communication and connections among Baylor graduates in the business world, said Brenda Morris, director of the Baylor Alumni Network. She expects more than 300 people to attend this inaugural meeting. "We are fortunate to be able to start this new program in Dallas with such a big event and such well-known dignitaries," she said.
Other activities the business network is planning include monthly breakfasts and additional sessions to encourage lifelong learning, she said.
