Senior Guard Dismissed from Men's Basketball Team

September 10, 2002

After a two-week trip through Europe coaching the Big 12 All Stars team, Baylor men's basketball coach Dave Bliss returned to the heat of Central Texas -- in more ways than one.
Wendell Greenleaf, the Bears' senior guard, was arrested Aug. 1 on his second assault charge this year and with a Class C misdemeanor for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces. He had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and assault on June 27 for an incident that occurred in April.
Bliss dismissed Greenleaf from the team Aug. 26, stating, "We think a new start for Wendell in another location might be best. As a university, we tried to understand and work with Wendell, and we wish him well."
Greenleaf was a two-year starter for the Bears, averaging 12.7 points and 3.7 assists as a junior last season. He was not enrolled for fall semester classes.
