Re-play It Again, Sam - Web Extra
This summer, new video replay boards were added at Baylor's Floyd Casey Stadium, the Ferrell Center, Baylor Ballpark and Getterman Stadium, which will allow fans to watch instant replays of the action, just like at home. All that's missing is the couch.
The process of adding the boards began several years ago when the athletic department began researching the technology and package options available, says Dr. Darryl Lehnus, Baylor's associate athletic director for corporate sales and marketing.
During that time period, the administration expanded its focus from adding just one board for football games to include replay boards for basketball, baseball and softball. Baylor is the first university to install Daktronics video boards in four venues simultaneously, Dr. Lehnus says.
The project was put on the fast track once Baylor found the necessary sponsors to help fund it. Reliant Energy, SBC Southwestern Bell and Dr Pepper signed on as anchor partners, agreeing to sponsor advertisements on the scoreboard and special video features. All boards were expected to be in place by the end of August.
Dr. Lehnus expects it to take some time to find ways to best utilize the boards, but he says they're sure to impress fans: "Come Sept. 6 and the first home game, there has to be a 'wow' factor. We are in the entertainment business."
