Capturing The Christmas Spirit

September 10, 2002

If you are planning on attending one of the School of Music's annual Christmas concerts, you might want to spend some extra time picking out your wardrobe -- you might be on television. This year, you'll be joined by a crew working on a new public television special called "Christmas at Baylor."
The one-hour program will be produced by the University and KWBU-TV and will be offered to more than 300 PBS stations across the nation next December, says Larry D. Brumley, associate vice president for external relations and president of Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation, which operates the public television station.
"'Christmas at Baylor' will be the University's gift to public television viewers across the country in 2003," Brumley says. "It's a wonderful opportunity to highlight the tremendous talent in our School of Music while at the same time offer viewers a peek at Baylor's beautiful campus all decked out for the season."
Produced in HDTV, the program will feature classical and contemporary Christmas music performed by Baylor's choirs and orchestra. Venues for the taping include Jones Concert Hall, the Armstrong Browning Library's Foyer of Meditation and George W. Truett Theological Seminary's Piper Great Hall.
Phillip Byrd, who will produce and direct the special, has won a national prime-time Emmy for Wolf Trap Presents the Kirov: Swan Lake, as well as numerous Corporation for Public Broadcasting awards and regional Emmys.
